Company Timeline
Since its founding in 1995, Nu Instruments has grown from a specialist mass spectrometry manufacturer into a recognised global leader in ICP-MS, GD-MS, IRMS, TIMS and noble gas mass spectrometry. The company has built its reputation through the development of high-performance analytical instruments used across academic, government and industrial laboratories worldwide for applications ranging from geochronology and environmental research to materials characterisation and food provenance studies.
Nu is part of AMETEK
As part of AMETEK's Materials Analysis Division (MAD), Nu Instruments sits alongside a portfolio of highly respected scientific instrumentation brands that serve research, industrial, and government laboratories worldwide. These include CAMECA, a leader in atom probe tomography and microanalysis systems; GATAN/EDAX, which specializes in X-ray microanalysis and electron microscopy solutions; SPECTRO, renowned for elemental analysis and optical emission spectroscopy
At Nu Instruments, we are committed to supporting employee wellbeing through our trained Mental Health First Aiders and Mental Health Champions. By encouraging open conversations and providing access to support and resources, we help create a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported.
In August 2016, AMETEK acquired Nu Instruments. The acquisition brought Nu Instruments into AMETEK’s Materials Analysis Division, strengthening its portfolio of advanced analytical instrumentation and complementing the capabilities of CAMECA and other AMETEK businesses.
NASA selected a custom Sapphire 1700 MC-ICP-MS to improve the analysis of ancient meteorites. Installed at the Johnson Space Center, the instrument provides highly precise isotope measurements, helping scientists better understand the age and origin of the early Solar System.

Product Range
MC-ICP-MS
Explore Nu's range of Multi-collector ICP-MS, based on our original Plasma technology. Dedicated and customisable ion counting solutions for applications such as U-Pb dating via laser ablation, U-Th series applications, or actinide analysis with ultralow abundance sensitivity requirements.

Technique
TOF-ICP-MS
Our newest instrument, TOF-ICP-MS delivers exceptional speed and elemental coverage, analysing nearly the entire periodic table thousands of times per second. It enables multi-element analysis of complex samples—even when you don’t know what you’re looking for.
