Nu Instruments | Multiple-Daly Detector Performance for Trace Nd Analysis

Learn how the Plasma 3 multiple-Daly detector system enables highly precise isotope analysis of ultra-trace neodymium samples. Results demonstrate excellent gain stability, wide dynamic range and performance close to theoretical precision limits.

Principle schematic of a Daly detector

The multiple-Daly detector option expands the capabilities of the Plasma 3 MC-ICP-MS for low-level isotope measurements. Daly detectors provide excellent stability, large peak flats and reliable overlap with Faraday detectors.

This application note evaluates the system using 5 ppt and 35 ppt neodymium standards analysed through sample-standard bracketing. Measurements were collected under static conditions using adjacent Daly detectors.

Results showed extremely consistent corrected isotope ratios between concentration levels and precisions approaching theoretical noise limits. The study confirms the suitability of the multiple-Daly configuration for demanding trace isotope applications.
