Nu Instruments | Accurate Trace-Level Neodymium Isotope Measurements
Discover how the Nu Plasma MC-ICP-MS enables precise neodymium isotope analysis from nanogram-level samples. The study demonstrates excellent agreement with TIMS reference values while maintaining low oxide formation and exceptional mass bias stability.

Precise determination of ¹⁴³Nd/¹⁴⁴Nd ratios is essential for geological and planetary science applications. This work evaluates isotope ratio measurements from samples containing between 1 ng and 7.5 ng of neodymium.
Using a desolvating nebuliser system and enhanced sensitivity interface, the instrument achieved high sensitivity with consistently low oxide formation. Measurements were collected over a twelve-hour sequence without retuning.
Results demonstrated excellent agreement with established TIMS reference values across all sample sizes. Precision approached theoretical noise limits, highlighting strong instrument stability and highly effective correction strategies.

Key Takeaways:
- Accurate isotope ratios achieved from sample sizes as low as 1 ng Nd.
- Low oxide formation maintained throughout extended analyses.
- Excellent agreement achieved with recognised TIMS reference values.
