Nu Instruments | Extending ICP-MS Matrix Handling with the Attom ES High Matrix Kit

The High Matrix Kit enables Attom ES users to analyse significantly higher dissolved solids concentrations while maintaining stability, sensitivity and long-term analytical performance.

Running higher levels of dissolved solids with the High Matrix Kit on Attom ES.

Traditional ICP-MS analysis is often limited by the amount of dissolved solids that can be introduced before cone contamination and signal drift occur. The High Matrix Kit addresses this challenge through an alternative sample dilution approach combined with modified torch and gas flow configurations.

Using a larger injector torch and controlled aerosol dilution within the plasma, the system can process solutions with substantially higher salt concentrations than conventional ICP-MS methods. Optimised operating conditions also reduce oxide formation and maintain robust plasma performance.

Testing with undiluted 1% sodium chloride solutions demonstrated stable operation over extended periods without interface maintenance. Internal standard correction provided consistent results across multiple elements, with reported concentrations remaining highly reproducible throughout 14-hour analytical runs.
