Nu Instruments | Multi-Element River Sediment Analysis Using Attom ICP-MS 

This application note demonstrates the Attom’s ability to perform reproducible multi-element analysis of river sediment digestions. Results are compared with accredited laboratory data to show agreement across multiple batches and resolutions.

The Attom was evaluated for multi-element analysis using river sediment samples and reference materials previously measured by the British Geological Survey. Samples were reanalysed repeatedly over a month while the instrument was also used for other applications.


Methods combined peak-jumping, 5000 resolution and 10000 resolution measurements during a single sample uptake. This allowed elements with potential interferences to be measured with multiple isotopes and resolutions for better confidence in quantitation.


The results showed strong agreement with accredited laboratory data across a broad range of elements. The study highlights the Attom’s ability to switch resolutions within samples while maintaining reproducible long-term performance.
