Nu Instruments | Rapid Semi-Quantitative Multi-Element Screening with High Resolution ICP-MS

Learn how the Attom High Resolution ICP-MS can be used for rapid sample screening and semi-quantitative multi-element analysis. The study demonstrates accurate concentration estimates across a broad elemental range using a simplified calibration approach.

The Attom High Resolution ICP-MS: Semi-Quantitative Analysis for Rapid Sample Screening

Semi-quantitative analysis is widely used to obtain approximate concentration data before undertaking detailed investigations. It can support method selection, dilution planning and calibration development.

This application note evaluates the Attom HR-ICP-MS in a rapid screening workflow using a mass response curve generated from selected calibration standards. The approach was tested using a well-characterised geological reference material.

Results showed that measured concentrations generally agreed with certified values within ±20%. These findings demonstrate that high resolution ICP-MS can provide reliable semi-quantitative data while benefiting from excellent sensitivity and interference resolution.

Key Takeaways:

  • Provides rapid concentration estimates across multiple elements.
  • Most results were within ±20% of certified reference values.
  • Supports efficient analytical method development and sample screening.
