This application note explores how the Astrum Swift enhances GD‑MS analysis of Ni superalloys, delivering faster throughput without compromising precision. Results demonstrate improved efficiency through reduced integration times, optimised electronics and stable low‑flow ion source performance.
The Astrum Swift builds on the established performance of the Astrum GD‑MS, a recognised standard for high purity materials analysis. It introduces faster magnet electronics, optimised detector systems and updated data acquisition software to meet the demands of alloy and lower purity material analysis. These improvements support both high precision and increased sample throughput in routine workflows.
In this study, SS346A Ni Inconel 100 samples were analysed in pin and flat formats to assess performance at different integration times. Shorter integration settings significantly reduced analysis duration while maintaining strong precision across matrix and trace elements. This demonstrates that reliable results can be achieved even under high throughput conditions.
The system’s low flow DC glow discharge source improves stability and reduces gas consumption, with no need for frequent recalibration. Minimal sample preparation simplifies workflows and lowers contamination risks compared to liquid techniques. Combined with fast sample changeover and intuitive software, the Astrum Swift is well suited to high-performance alloy analysis environments.
