Electronics Engineer

An Electronics Engineer is required for an initial 6 month contract, starting immediately, to maintain and amend schematic drawings, PCB layouts and Bills of Materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive training and become competent with Altium Designer
  • Update Schematics as directed by a Development Engineer
  • Make revisions to PCB layouts under supervision of a Development Engineer
  • Produce Bills of Materials from existing and revised designs
  • Produce PCB manufacturing package from existing and revised designs
  • Ensure manufacturing packages are released to production in accordance with relevant procedures
  • Reconcile PCB Bills of Materials with those held at manufacturers
  • Manage stock system and Altium parts library

 

Skills Required

  • Degree in Electronics, Engineering or Science subject would be advantageous
  • Ability to take instruction and train to use a PCB design programme over a short period of time
  • Ability to maintain and update documentation for approximately 80 active PCB assemblies

 

This position is initially funded for a 6 month period, however Nu Instruments is a dynamic and expanding business and this position could lead to a number of permanent opportunities within the organisation.

Demonstration and Application Scientist

Due to our expanding product range, we require a Demonstration and Applications Scientist to showcase our ICP-MS products.

DUTIES:

  • Performing demonstrations (including preparation, data evaluation, reports) to prospects
  • Sample preparation for demonstrations including method development for demonstration requirements
  • Development of new applications and improvement to existing applications
  • Maintenance of demonstration instrumentation
  • Preparation of technical presentations for sales and marketing, training and conferences
  • Preparation and design of technical brochures and schematics, flyers, etc
  • Preparation of technical and software manuals, work instructions, customer help documentation
  • Acquire results for and preparation of application notes
  • Technical sales support, liaising with prospective customers, customers visits and regional sales representative assistance
  • Assistance with development and testing of new hardware and instrument features to improve hardware design and reliability (including control and connectivity of accessories)
  • Liaise with software development, defining software requirements and improvements
  • Customer training (on-site and in factory)
  • Applications support to existing customers and engineers
  • Maintain product and application knowledge through related scientific literature
  • Represent the company at conferences (national and international) including giving presentations

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Solid grounding in chemistry, physics, Earth sciences or another relevant scientific discipline
  • Good communication and presentational skills
  • Experience in the operation and/or maintenance of MC-ICP-MS or TIMS instrumentation

Test and Installation Engineers

Nu Instruments Ltd is looking to recruit Test and Installation Engineers for several of its products. The role consists of factory testing and world-wide site installation of the instruments. Willingness to travel for periods of up to 4 weeks is essential and the role typically involves 25% domestic and/or international travel.

Duties:

  • Test products in accordance with documented test procedures
  • Ensure all products meet required performance criteria
  • Ensure all products meet required quality and safety criteria
  • Maintain/produce factory and on-site test reports as required.
  • Install products on-site, meeting all contractual performance and quality/safety requirements
  • Provide customer training in the factory and on-site where required
  • Provide service support to the Customer Services department
  • Perform service visits if required
  • Physical manual handling of instrument components. Working at floor level up to shoulder height
  • Handling of chemical samples (solid, liquid & gas)

 

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Solid grounding in chemistry and/or physics or other scientific discipline
  • Good communication and presentational skills
  • A logical approach to trouble-shooting and fault-finding
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings
  • IT skills in MS Office software packages such as Word and Excel

 

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of vacuum technology and vacuum handling requirements
  • Electrical wiring and a good foundation in electronics

 

Senior Software Engineer

As part of the company’s growth strategy we are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer.

DUTIES:

  • Carry out software development according to company standards and guidelines
  • Produce / interpret specifications as required from Product Specialist
  • Design solution to meet agreed requirements, making specific determinations about system performance
  • Conduct system analysis and development to keep our systems current with changing technologies
    • Produce test cases to ensure development meets specification and exhibits correct functionality
    • Fix defects reported during all phases of development life-cycle
    • Provide customer training in the factory and on-site when required
    • Assist in customer support as required by the product department
    • Perform site visits if required
    • Maintain/produce documentation as required
    • (Manuals, procedures, release notes etc)
    • Promote and develop quality procedures within the department
    • Keep the team up to date with latest software developments and strategic information from all sources.

Essential Technical Experience/Skills

  • Previous experience in a similar Senior Software Engineer role
  • Proven ability to design, specify and deliver solutions
  • Strong .NET experience (C#, VB.NET)
  • Microsoft Windows Development.

 

Desirable Technical Experience/Skills

  • Computer-related degree
  • Microsoft Certification (MCSE etc.)
  • Knowledge of Real Time systems (Soft Real Time)
  • Multi Tier (Client – Server) design experience
  • Use of Agile Design Methodologies.

Electrical/Mechanical Production Assembler

Job Title: Electrical/Mechanical Production Assembler

Department: Production

Reporting to: Production Manager

We require an Electrical/Mechanical Production Assembler with previous experience of panel wiring.  You will be comfortable working to tight deadlines and producing assemblies to the highest quality standards.

You will be responsible for completing a variety of wiring and mechanical assemblies with regards to scientific apparatus.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Wiring of panels, units and sub assemblies
  • Completion of mechanical assemblies
  • Inspection of completed assemblies

 

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:

  • Experience of Electrical/Mechanical assembly
  • Ability to read engineering and electronic schematic drawings
  • Experience of ESD handling operations
  • Experience within a similar environment would be preferable
  • Qualified to IPC-620 or equivalent standard would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of ISO9001:2008 standard or equivalent would be advantage
